Why the name
Radix is Latin for root. In botany: the part of a plant that anchors it, pulls water from the soil, and quietly does the hard work nobody photographs. In mathematics: the base a number is written against. In software: the beginning of a tree, the first thing you read to understand the rest.
All three meanings are useful. None of them are loud.
Small businesses don't need loud. They need things that work, quietly, for years. They need a system that keeps running when the intern leaves, when the spreadsheet breaks, when the founder is on a plane. The unglamorous parts. The roots.
What this commits us to
Naming ourselves after the root means we don't get to build the shiny bits and leave the foundations for someone else. We own the whole thing:
- The database schema nobody ever looks at.
- The integration that runs at 3am and silently fails if we got the retry logic wrong.
- The admin dashboard that your ops manager uses when nobody is watching.
- The error message that shows up when a form breaks — is it helpful? Does it tell them what to do?
If any of that is broken, the fruit — the customer-facing parts, the growth, the revenue — wilts. We've seen it enough to know.
What we won't do
A lot of consultancies sell frameworks. We don't have one. We don't have a five-step methodology with a memorable acronym. We don't ship decks about transformation.
What we do is show up, ask what's broken, and then fix the broken thing. Sometimes it's AI. Often it's a worse website, a spreadsheet that needs to stop being a spreadsheet, or a process where one person is the bottleneck. We pick what actually helps. We say no when automation isn't the right answer yet.
Who this is for
If you run a small or mid-sized company and you've been told AI is going to save you, or replace you, or that you need to "transform" — we'd probably get along. We think most of that is noise, and the actual work is quieter.
